Warranty information
Your bow is a product of a labour of love, crafted over days to proven designs and the highest standards. In that process, it will have been shot-in with around six-dozen arrows to ensure its function & performance. Used, handled and cared for correctly, it should stand up to many thousands of arrows.
As a guarantee of this, all bows are covered by a 3-month warranty against defects in materials and manufacture when used in line with best practice.
Please read and take notice of the following guidance.
Damage to your bow caused by failure to follow best practice will render the warranty invalid.
best practice
i
American Flatbow-style Board Bows and Bamboo/Ipe Reflex/Deflex bows must be strung using the push/pull method. Watch a tutorial here.
ii
English longbows must be strung using a stringer (as supplied).
iii
After stringing, do not shoot the bow ‘cold’. Instead, gradually and gently draw the bow out to 1/4 draw 5-10 times, then half draw 5-10 times, and finally 3/4 draw 5-10 times. Be patient! Do not rush or overlook this process. It allows the wood fibres to get used to moving again after being sat static since last use.
iv
All bows must be used at the stated draw length or less. In the case of the Board Bows, this means with arrows the length of those supplied or less. An efficient bow is designed to have enough mass (wood) in it to reach the desired weight at the desired draw length and no more. Theoretically, a perfectly efficient bow should snap the moment you draw pass the draw length it was designed for. Bear that in mind!
v
Never draw a bow without an arrow in place as reference for the length of draw. It is easy to over draw a bow in this circumstance and the bow will break.
vi
If your bow has a stated brace height, do not brace over that height. If in doubt, or if your bow does not have a stated brace height, do not brace above 6” (or 5” for a 4ft Board Bow).
vii
Never ‘dry-fire’ a bow. This means shooting it without an arrow. The energy that would otherwise be transferred to the arrow is concentrated on the limb tip and the bow can shatter. It is dangerous.
viii
Do not leave your bow strung whilst not in use. It will damage the wood fibres in the longterm leading to ‘set’ and a drop in the poundage and efficiency of the bow.
ix
Do inspect your bow and string before every use to check its integrity. Do not use if any cracks or splinters are found in the bow, or any frays are found in the string.
x
Do store your bow somewhere with moderate environmental conditions: away from excessive damp or aridity, or sources of heat (especially radiators) or cold. For these reasons, sheds, garages, conservatories and lofts are not suitable spaces to store bows. Choose instead a climatically moderate internal space such as a spare room, bedroom or wardrobe.
